Water Apple

Syzygium samarangense (Blume) Merr. & L.M.Perry
Northeastern India to Vanuatu
Fun factThe flowers and fruit attract birds and butterflies, and the leaves give off an aromatic scent when crushed.

An evergreen tree of the myrtle family with a short thick trunk, flaking pink-grey bark and a wide spreading crown. Clusters of fragrant yellowish-white flowers with many stamens are followed by bell-shaped, waxy fruits, most often light red but green or white in some forms, with crisp, spongy, watery flesh and a mild flavour. It is planted for fruit, shade and ornament.
