Sugar Apple
Annona squamosa L.
Tropical America
Fun factThe natural pollinators are small nitidulid beetles, and growers who hand-pollinate the flowers can achieve nearly 100% fruit set.
A small spreading tree with thin, dull pale green, lance-shaped leaves that may drop in cool or dry weather. Its small fleshy green flowers are pollinated by tiny beetles and give rise to heart-shaped, knobbly fruits made up of loosely joined segments; inside is a sweet, creamy white pulp around many dark brown seeds.
