Palm
Royal Palm
Roystonea regia (Kunth) O.F.Cook
Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean
Fun factThe bulge in the middle of the trunk is the easiest way to tell it from the similar cabbage palm, Roystonea oleracea.
A tall, single-trunked palm with a smooth concrete-grey trunk marked by closely spaced rings and often a bulge around its middle. A glossy green crownshaft up to 2 m long sits below a crown of large feather-like fronds, which drop cleanly on their own when they die. It is one of the classic avenue palms of the tropical Americas.
