Red Latan Palm

Latania lontaroides (Gaertn.) H.E.Moore
Réunion
Fun factThe red colour of the leaf stalks and leaf margins persists for the palm's whole life, even after the leaf blades turn green.

A fan palm from the island of Réunion with a smooth, ringed trunk that is swollen at the base and a crown of stiff, waxy, whitish-green costapalmate leaves. Young plants are strikingly red, and even on mature green leaves the leaf stalks and margins stay red. It resembles the Bismarck palm and is grown along roadsides and in parks and gardens.
