Pink Shower Tree

Cassia javanica L.
Southeast Asia to New Guinea
Fun factAlthough deciduous, the tree replaces its leaves so quickly that it rarely looks bare.

Cassia javanica is a deciduous tree of the pea family with slender, somewhat pendulous branches and feathery pinnate leaves. In summer it is covered in clusters of pink and white flowers, with different shades of pink and white on the same tree and even the same flower, which is why it is also called apple-blossom cassia. Long cylindrical pods follow the flowers, and the tree is planted as an ornamental shade and street tree throughout the tropics.
