Madagascar Almond
Terminalia mantaly H.Perrier
Madagascar
Fun factIts branches grow in neat horizontal tiers, so a row of these trees looks like a set of layered umbrellas.
A medium-sized tree with a distinctive crown of branches arranged in horizontal tiers, which gives it a formal, layered outline. The bark is mottled pale grey with brownish lenticels, and the small, glossy, spoon-shaped leaves have slightly wavy margins. Small greenish flowers without petals are carried on short spikes, followed by smooth wingless fruits, though it seldom flowers in some cultivated areas.
