Verdello Lemon
Citrus × paradisi Macfad.
The West Indies (cultivated)
Fun factGrapefruit is believed to be a natural hybrid of sweet orange and pummelo that appeared in Barbados and Jamaica, making it one of the youngest of all citrus fruits.
Grapefruit is a small evergreen citrus tree with thorny twigs, glossy dark green leaves and fragrant white blossom. Its large, pale yellow fruits, sometimes flushed pink, have very juicy, acidic pulp that ranges from pale yellow to deep red depending on the variety. It is one of the newest citrus fruits, having arisen as a chance hybrid in the Caribbean.
